Batman and Catwoman Cash uses licenced images, sound and clips from the high camp 1960’s/70s TV shows that those of us over 40 miss terribly, and that younger players have been sadly deprived of.

Starring Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin, the William Dozier-narrated Batman TV series featured the two crime-fighting heroes defending Gotham City from a variety of villains and their henchmen in a series of humorously simplistic morality tales that championed the importance of using seat belts, doing homework, eating vegetables, and drinking milk.

It had to be seen to be believed and left an indelible imprint on the minds of those who got to see it, making the likes of Michael Keaton and Christian Bale seem competent, but somehow not quite right for the role.

Catwoman started out life as one of Batman’s best adversaries, subsequently becoming a love interest in later films - though the versions played by Julie Newmar and - surprisingly – Eartha Kitt in the 60s and 70s are the most fondly-remembered, with Newmar appearing in Playtech’s slot.

On the reels

Batman and Catwoman Cash slots comes with 25 action-packed paylines, and you’ll get to meet both key protagonists in regular and stacked formats along with a helicopter, Batman’s aerial call sign, his utility belt, Catwoman’s eye mask and whip and much more. With a series like this the opportunities for props are too numerous to mention but they’ll all make sense as soon as you clap eyes on them.

Batman, Robin and Catwoman can land as stacked symbols, and 5 Batmans on a payline will net you 400 coins. More lucrative still is the Batman logo which is the game’s wild - 5 of these yield a 2,500 coin prize.

Musically, the best sequences from the TV show are all given an airing, as are the spinning screen scene separators and other period visual devices that helped make it such a memorable viewing experience. Another great example is the ‘Kapow’, ‘Clank’ and ‘Zamm’ fight sequence graphics, though there’s an almost endless set of cleverly-incorporated ideas that make this game an instant hit.

Land one of the aforementioned punch-up phrases on Reels 1 and 3 simultaneously and you’ll land the Cat Burglar Bonus feature. At this point you get to choose 1 of the bonus symbols to reveal a cash prize or a ‘+1’, which is added to your multiplier upon triggering the free spins feature.

Once the multiplier meter is increased the bonus symbol will transform into a diamond, and when it lands it will award an instant cash bonus.

The Batman vs Catwoman Free Games feature is triggered by landing the bonus symbol on Reels 1, 3 and 5 simultaneously. You’ll then be taken off-screen and asked to select from boxes to earn anything from 7 to 25 free spins; you then need to pick again to reveal which symbol will be stacked during the feature and your spins will play out accordingly.

Multiplier are reset once the free spins are played out, though Catwoman will add extra bonus symbols to the reels, improving your odds of hitting the Cat Burglar Bonus feature or the Batman vs Catwoman Free Games feature in the 24 base game spins that follow.

For a really big win, though, don’t forget that – like lots of other branded Playtech slots – you can win a progressive jackpot prize on this game. The DC Superheroes pooled jackpot is awarded randomly when you’re in the base game, and offers four different levels of progressive prize that you can access via a unique set of hexagonal tiles that you’ll turn to reveal points in favour of the respective different jackpots.

Our Verdict

We had a blast on this slot and vastly prefer its energetic, cartoonish nostalgia to the more serious Batman-themed titles. If you remember the TV series that it’s based on you can’t fail to enjoy it – if you don’t you’ll be searching for any old episodes you can get your hands on once you’ve torn yourself away from this outstanding game.
